The unfenced border between this private game reserve and Kruger National Park allows herds of animals to migrate unhindered to the perennial Sand River which flows north to south through the the reserve for 20km (13 miles). Today this area is known to have the greatest diversification of animal species on the African continent.
With a setting of low lying flat bush country, this region contains habitat types ranging from riverine thicket to the open savannah. Over 200 different species occur in abundance whilst the ever changing bird life provides even the most experienced ornithologist with rare finds.
The reserve is fully accessible by air and road and there are a number of options to choose from. Mala Mala Private Game Reserve falls within the Sabi Sands Game Reserve which is adjacent to the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.
Daily direct flights from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to MalaMala take 1 hour.
There are scheduled flights from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban to Nelspruit (KMIA - Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport).
Private charters can be arranged to transfer guests from KMIA to the reserve. This service requires a minimum of 2 people and takes about 30 minutes one way.
The reserve's private airstrip boasts an all weather surface and is equipped with aeronautical communication facilities. Private charters can be arranged from just about any airport. This service is ideal for guests who cannot fit in with scheduled flight times of standard carriers. The cost is dependent on the number of guests, type of aircraft requested and flying distance.
Road transfers from the airport can be arranged for guests arriving at KMIA. Alternatively, guests can arrive via a Panoramic Transfer or self-drive to the lodge.
The journey from Johannesburg takes about 6 hours. There are entrance fees (cash only) payable for admittance to Sabi Sands Game Reserve (per vehicle and per guest).
